This year is the Woodstock’s 50th anniversary

The 50th anniversary of the Woodstock music festival will be celebrated in August not with a single event but with two competing events.

One event will be from August 16 – 18 at a motor – racing venue in upstate New York.

The other event will take place in the field where the 1969 festival took place, of course on the same dates. The name of the current owners of the field is the “Bethel Woods Center for the Arts”: it wil be a “pan – generational event”.

It was one of the pivotal moments in music history and today the mission of the original festival  is still contemporary. “It was a reaction by the youth of the time to the causes we felt compelled to fight for civil rights, women’s rights, and the antiwar movement, and it gave way to our mission to share peace, love and music,” said in a statement Michael Lang, the co-producer of the 1969 Woodstock festival. Today we are experiencing similar disconnects not only in the United States but also in the world.

It is still not announced the 2019 performer line-up but more than 60 musicians will take part. Maybe you will not listen Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, The Band, and the Grateful Dead, but it will be surely to be seen.
